Great Wednesday
THE HARLOT WHO ANOINTED THE LORD
Holy Martyr Calliópios
Saint George, Bishop of Mytilene
On Holy and Great Wednesday the divine Fathers ordained a commemoration to be kept of the woman who was a harlot and who anointed the Lord with myrrh, inasmuch as this took place a short time before the saving Passion.
Contemplate: Ye are of God, little children, . . .: because greater is He that is in you, than he that is in the world. (St. John 4:4)
[So famous are the treasures such as so called great men and their deeds. But they are like attractive stones that lie on the surface of the earth, yet below, and acquired with some effort, lie the diamonds and the gold. If you are acquainted with Saint Ephraem in name only, but acknowledge with great esteem the orators and writers of the world, then know they are but the attractive stones that lie on the beach and Saint Ephraem, mostly unknown by men but trumpeted by the angels and saints, is the diamond and gold beneath the surface.
We satiate our bodies unfailingly but if you seek Eternal food for the soul, St. Ephraem points the way. Click ON THE SINFUL WOMAN below.
