Holy Martyr Epímachos
- Fast day -

Stáchys was an assistant to St. Andrew the First-called. St. Andrew appointed him Bishop of Byzantium. He established the church in Argyropoulos and governed his flock faithfully and zealously. After sixteen years as bishop, he entered peacefully into rest in the Lord.
Amplías and Urban worked likewise with St. Andrew, and were ordained bishops by him, Amplías in Lydda of Odyssopolis in Judea, and Urban in Macedonia. Both died as martyrs for Christ the Lord. Nárkissos was appointed Bishop of Athens by the Apostle Philip.
St. Apellés was Bishop of Heraclea in Trachis.
Aristóboulos, brother of the Apostle Barnabas,
preached the Christian Faith in Britain and reposed peacefully there.

Romans 16:1-16
King James Version

16 I commend unto you Phebe our sister, which is a servant of the church which is at Cenchrea:

2 That ye receive her in the Lord, as becometh saints, and that ye assist her in whatsoever business she hath need of you: for she hath been a succorer of many, and of myself also.

3 Greet Priscilla and Aquila my helpers in Christ Jesus:

4 Who have for my life laid down their own necks: unto whom not only I give thanks, but also all the churches of the Gentiles.

5 Likewise greet the church that is in their house. Salute my well-beloved Epaenetus, who is the firstfruits of Achaia unto Christ.

6 Greet Mary, who bestowed much labour on us.

7 Salute Andronicus and Junia, my kinsmen, and my fellow-prisoners, who are of note among the apostles, who also were in Christ before me.

8 Greet Amplias my beloved in the Lord.

9 Salute Urbane, our helper in Christ, and Stachys my beloved.

10 Salute Apelles approved in Christ. Salute them which are of Aristobulus' household.

11 Salute Herodion my kinsman. Greet them that be of the household of Narcissus, which are in the Lord.

12 Salute Tryphena and Tryphosa, who labour in the Lord. Salute the beloved Persis, which laboured much in the Lord.

13 Salute Rufus chosen in the Lord, and his mother and mine.

14 Salute Asyncritus, Phlegon, Hermas, Patrobas, Hermes, and the brethren which are with them.

15 Salute Philologus, and Julia, Nereus, and his sister, and Olympas, and all the saints which are with them.

16 Salute one another with an holy kiss. The churches of Christ salute you.

Saint Luke 11:42-46
King James Version

42 But woe unto you, Pharisees! for ye tithe mint and rue and all manner of herbs, and pass over judgment and the love of God: these ought ye to have done, and not to leave the other undone.

43 Woe unto you, Pharisees! for ye love the uppermost seats in the synagogues, and greetings in the markets.

44 Woe unto you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! for ye are as graves which appear not, and the men that walk over them are not aware of them.

45 Then answered one of the lawyers, and said unto him, Master, thus saying thou reproachest us also.

46 And he said, Woe unto you also, ye lawyers! for ye lade men with burdens grievous to be borne, and ye yourselves touch not the burdens with one of your fingers.

HOW TO BE LIKE CHRIST
Saint Dorotheos of Gaza

TRUST ME, I know one brother who walked behind me from the infirmary to the church, cursing me the entire way. But I went ahead without saying a word. When the abbot heard of it, I don't know who mentioned it to him, he wanted to discipline him. But I fell before his feet saying, "Do not do this, for the sake of the Lord. It was I who have failed. He has done nothing improper." And there was another brother, whether to irritate me or from simplicity, the Lord knows which of the two, during the stillness of the night, poured water on my head and drenched my bed. Likewise some of the other brothers started, during the day to beat their mats in front of my cell. And I beheld such a mass of flies and stinging bugs entering into my cell that I could not kill all of them. They were in such a great mass on account of the heat that when I came back to lie down they all descended on me. Sleep overtook me, because I was tired from my work, and then when I awoke I discovered that my body was bitten all over. However I never spoke about any of these with any of them, not "You should not do this," or "Why have you done this?" I am not aware, as I said, of having said a harsh or bitter word. Learn then to carry each others burdens. Learn to honor one another. And if any of you hears a distasteful word, or if one of you is smitten with a willful provocation do not immediately become shy or get angry, do not be found weak at the time of the contest, ill-prepared in the needful time, not tuned, not able to confront such assaults which are ready to come. Do not be as a pumpkin that suddenly goes rotten if a insect stings it, but instead have a strong heart, have patience that our love for each other will overcome all things that happen to us.
