Although often publicly encouraged by His Eminence Archbishop Chrysostomos, of blessed memory, that Orthodox Christians should be ashamed to neglect reading at least the epistle and gospel each day, the Paragon can also offer other encouragement to accelerate the transition from this age of deception into our permanent homes. And yes, while yet in this life! What are the accelerants you may ask? Stop for a moment and consider the things you do to accelerate you're interests and participation in things you desire. For instance sports. Is it not much the same in the change from "life" to "LIFE"? Why "life" and "LIFE"? The time we have here is "life" because it transitions into death. LIFE is timeless, eternal and without death, suffering or pain, etc. Subsequently, if "life" is focused entirely on Christ, then death is merely its end and the beginning of "LIFE".
The Accelerants:
The PARAGON begins each day with the life of the saint or saints commemorated. In them we find not only their rewards gained, either by breath or blood, by their renunciation of this "life". If read with love for the saint's sacrifice and desire for a relationship of reciprocation, it is given, if it pleases God. The same results are gained from reading the sayings and writing from the saints, holy fathers and mothers, usually following the epistle and Gospel on the PARAGON.
If however you content yourself with a created fantasy, believing as you like, I leave you with a quote, as best I can remember, from St. Philaret of New York:
"When a stone is thrown into the air, it goes either up or down. It does not stand still."

During the time of Copronymos, James endured great hardships and suffering at the hands of the Iconoclasts, such as hunger, imprisonment and ridicule of all sorts. Finally, he gave up his soul to God, Whom he had faithfully served in this life. He lived and suffered in the eighth century.
